MECHASLAU HRYB ELECTED AS BSDP SECRETARY GENERAL

On April 6, 2008 Central Committee meeting of Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada) has taken place.

During this meeting elections of BSDP Secretary General were initiated because of Vice-Chairman of BSDP Anatol SIDAREVICH asked to relieve him from this position. According to results of secret vote famous politician Mechaslau HRYB became elected as BSDP Secretary General. Mechaslau HRYB became automatically member of BSDP Presidium (according to BSDP Statute).

Central Committee took decision that extra XII Party Congress will take place in July or August 2008. Concrete date of the Congress will depend on officially appointed date for Parliamentary elections in Autumn 2008.

Mechaslau HRYB was born in 1938 in Hrodna Region. He graduated Lviv Military Collage and Juridical faculty of Belarusian State University. Lieutenant-general of militia. Honored lawyer.

In 1990 M. HRYB was elected to Supreme Council of Belarus (Belarusian Parliament), was at the head of Parliamentary Commission. In 1994 was elected as Parliament Chairman. M.HRYB signed Belarusian Constitution of 1994. In 1995 was elected as MP again, was member of social-democratic fraction “Labor Union”.

After dissolving Parliament in November 1996 M. HRYB took an active part in work of Supreme Council of XIII convocation which was recognized as legal Parliament by many of International institutions. M. HRYB was at the head of National Executive Committee. Under his supervision program on political, economical and social reforms “Strategy for Belarus” has been worked out in 2000.

Since 1996 M.HRYB became member of BSDP. He was member of different governing bodies, was first Vice-Chairman of BSDP. During Presidential election campaign 2005–2006 M.HRYB managed by initiative group of Aliaxandr KAZULIN.
